In 1965, the Older Americans Act became the framework for a network dedicated to working together to serve the nations elderly (60 and over). Amendments added in 1973 resulted in the formation of over 600 Area Agencies on Aging, one of which was the Lower Chattahoochee Area Agency on Aging.

As part of this network, the Lower Chattahoochee Area Agency on Aging
contracts with us for a comprehensive delivery of service to seven counties and a more limited service to the remaining nine counties which comprise the service area of the Area Agency on Aging and which are also served by other contractors.

Organization of the
Lower Chattahoochee Direct Service Corporation

Since it's establishment in 1979 as a private non-profit corporation (501-C3 determination by the IRS in 1990), the Lower Chattahoochee Direct service Corporation has been a Title III of the Older Americans Act service provider for the eight counties (Chattahoochee, Clay, Harris, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, and Talbot) of the Lower Chattahoochee Area. DSC successfully provided CCSP Case Management in the Lower Chattahoochee Area from 1985 thru 1997. DSC has successfully provided Care Coordination for the 16 counties of the expanded Lower Chattahoochee Area since 1997. DSC has prepared and catered meals (both congregate and home-delivered) to six of the eight counties in the Lower Chattahoochee Area since 1991. DSC has successfully provided services funded by the Social Services Block Grant in the Lower Chattahoochee area since 1994. DSC is dedicated to providing services for older people, which will allow them to maintain maximum independence and dignity in a safe home environment. This agency was created by persons who were committed to and experience in developing and delivering quality services to the area's older residents.

DSC serves in the sixteen counties of the expanded Lower Chattahoochee Area. DSC has demonstrated its capability to administer and provide services to the elderly through its service contract to provide senior center services, home-delivered and congregate meals programs, homemaker services, Alzheimer's Respite Program, Community Care Services Program, Long Term Care Ombudsman program, EAP and ADC.

The Lower Chattahoochee Direct Service Corporation is organized to promote the mental, spiritual, and physical welfare of the senior citizens of the lower Chattahoochee service area by developing and maintaining a comprehensive and coordinated network of facilities, personnel, and services for the alleviation or correction of the limitations and disadvantages confronting older people in maintaining their economic self-sufficiency and personal well being and realizing their maximum as contributors to the community, state, and nation.

The Philosophy of the Lower Chattahoochee Direct Service Corporation is to serve as the major service component in developing a comprehensive coordinated service delivery system for the elderly persons (60+) in the Lower Chattahoochee Area by providing services and networking with other providers. DSC serves as the focal point for services in the Lower Chattahoochee Area. The Senior Centers operated by DSC are the hub for activities for the elderly in the communities in which they are located.

DSC advocates for the elderly through all of its programs. DSC has organized letter writing campaigns and telephone campaigns. DSC strives to keep all of its participants well informed and encourages them to write letters and make phone calls about the needs of the elderly.
